Collarless
Available Instantly- Lower mana costs for certain "Colorless" skills
- Required for hardcore ultimate unlocks
- No stat bonuses
- Extremely weak base power
- Basically an arms race against enemies
Meta Build: Return to basics. You only play Collarless if you are doing a challenge run or hunting for the exclusive endgame unlocks (Defeating Throbbing King/Chaos/Creator with ONLY Collarless cats). You will need to farm for Blank Collars (Colorless items).
Fighter
Available Instantly- High damage and mobility
- Buffs scale extremely well
- Immune to projectile reflection
- High early-game attrition (takes too much damage)
- Vulnerable to equipment breaking and instant death mechanics
Meta Build: Mobility is mandatory. Prioritize Speed (aim for 7 SPD), then Strength. Get the "Cleanse Debuff" skill (upgraded version grants immunity stacks per cleanse). Spam basic attacks.
Hunter
Available Instantly- Longest base attack range
- Scattershot + Hunter's Boon = Screen Clear
- Mark skill (ignores shield, 100% crit) is broken
- Low base Speed and Constitution
- Trap/Summon skills can dilute the pool
- Weak against projectile reflection
Meta Build: Ignore STR. Can focus on raw shooting, summons, or poison. Needs high CHA early for mana, and MUST raise CON (min 6) later to avoid random AOE one-shots.
Mage
Available Instantly- Can achieve theoretical infinite damage
- Mana transfer abilities
- Element reactions
- Extremely fragile
- Awful basic attack
- Takes time to scale in fast-paced fights
Meta Build: Essential for The Sewers (Electric skills react with water). Trash to Treasure: Upgrade "Waste Time" (1 AP = 1 Charge). Pair with passive: "Ally skill use = +2 magic damage". Drop 40+ DMG AOE nukes every turn.
Tank
Available Instantly- Massive HP pool
- Great base attack template
- Skill pool is a mess
- Falls off in Act 2 and Act 3
- Thorns build can hurt allies
Meta Build: Mobility is key. Must reach 7 SPD (max movement). "Petrify" is great for locking down threats. "Swallow Stone" is a hard counter to The Moon boss and Crater enemies.
Cleric
Unlock: Beating The Alley- Consistent healing
- God-tier "Cleanse" skill
- Healing damages Undead enemies
- Cannot heal self easily
- Slow and low damage
- Damage skills pollute the pool
Meta Build: Stick close to squishy DPS. Mandatory for Sewers & Core: You need Cleanse to survive severe bleeding/burn mechanics. Combine "Drop Holy Shield" with "Sharing is Caring" for team invincibility.
Thief
Unlock: Beating The Sewers- Always goes first
- High Crit and Dodge
- Backstabs deal massive damage
- Basic attacks pick up coins
- Very short range
- Fragile
- Coin-farming skills pollute combat pool
Meta Build: Mobility skills are mandatory to position for backstabs and escape. Highly dependent on specific equipment to shine in combat. Excellent for economy runs.
Necromancer
Unlock: Beating The Boneyard- Excellent tanking stats
- Self-sustain (Leech)
- Revive mechanics
- Low base damage
- Requires very specific skill combos to shine
Meta Build: Play as a Tank that heals itself. The ultimate combo is "Play Dead" + "Full Screen Soul Link". Synergizes incredibly well with a Cleric\'s "Thou Shalt Not Kill" passive.
Druid
Unlock: Beating The Crater- Base attack heals allies and buffs damage
- Starts with a free, hyper-aggressive Crow summon
- Transformations offer huge power spikes
- Card skills cost HP
- Too many useless plant-growing skills in pool
Meta Build: Pick a cat with high base STR so the starting Crow hits hard. Keep SPD slightly higher than your DPS so you can buff them before they act. The Crow's wind can blow out candles in the Tormentor boss fight!
Tinkerer
Unlock: Beating The Bunker- Funny mechanics and unique gadgets
- By the time you build a weapon, the room is already cleared by others
- Low floor, hard to reach ceiling
Meta Build: Needs specific talents and items (like Sniper Rifle) to skip the slow setup phase. Otherwise, plays like a challenge character.
Psychic
Unlock: Beating The Moon- God-tier specific skills (Permanent Charm, Extra Turn)
- Great repositioning tools
- If you don't draw the OP skills, you are useless
- Needs colorless skills to function consistently
Meta Build: Hunt for "Extra Turn" and "Permanent Charm". Use basic attacks and skills to push/pull dangerous enemies into traps. Plays very differently from Cleric—Psychic prevents damage by controlling the board.
Butcher
Unlock: Beating The Core- The Hook avoids getting surrounded
- Attacks drop meat (healing/drops)
- Excellent passive pool
- Weapon slot is locked
- Speed penalty hurts
- Lower ceiling than Hunter/Fighter
Meta Build: A self-sustaining bruiser. Focus on high STR and CON. Use the hook to pull squishy enemies out of cover without diving into the mob.
Monk
Unlock: Beating The Lab- Unique Double-Action trait
- High quality single skills (Combo/Apprentice)
- Accessory slot is locked
- Very dependent on specific builds
- Low base attack scaling
Meta Build: The "Combo" skill is broken. Without gear, you can hit 7 times in a row. Because Monk has naturally high INT/CHA, you can cast Combo multiple times per turn. Pair with "Flow State".
Jester
Unlock: Beating The Rift- Has a broken prismatic talent (if you ever find it)
- 1 free reroll built-in
- Zero combat stats
- Requires a 3-cat team to carry him
Meta Build: Give him the "Eternal Stone" and hide him in the corner. Let the other 3 cats carry him. Purely for achievements and crazy gamble runs.
Meta Comp: The "3-Cat" Carry
Why 3 Cats? Running 3 cats instead of 4 forces the game to distribute XP faster. Reaching Level 5/6 quickly gives you massive ability upgrades, allowing you to snowball through Act 2 and 3.
Prioritize DEX above all. Needs min 6 CON to survive AOE. High LCK for crits. Key passive: Rubber Arrow, Intercepting Shot. Skill: Scattershot + Mark.
Needs high STR so the starting Crow hits hard. Speed must be slightly higher than Hunter to buff before they shoot. Key Skill: Inspiring Song.
Needs high CON (7+) to survive. Equip the Bone Set for massive defense. Key Passive: Healing Aura, Cleanser.
*Need to carry a Jester for an achievement? Use this 3-cat core and let the 4th cat do nothing.
Classified Intel: Unlocks Matrix
Mewgenics features a massive grid of cross-progression unlocks. Beating specific acts (e.g., The Caves, The Core, The Moon) with specific classes (like Hunter or Psychic) will unlock new Collars, Trinkets, and ultimate Mutations for your future runs.
Defeating the true endgame bosses (The Throbbing King, Chaos!, and The Creator) with a team consisting ONLY of Collarless cats grants the rarest achievements and items in the game. This feat requires immaculate breeding, perfect Blank Collar drops, and flawless strategic mastery.
